Pride Board Treasurer Receives CAPI `Person of the Year' Award

Mike Karim, a board member and longtime volunteer for San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride, was voted "Person of the Year" by the Consolidated Association of Pride, Inc. (CAPI) at its recent annual conference in Las Vegas. The honor is bestowed to individuals who have worked "above and beyond" for not only their own local Pride organizations, but for others in the region while contributing their efforts to the greater Pride movement.

Karim's award was voted on by Pride organizations in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah and Mexico. As current treasurer of San Diego Pride, he also serves on the board of CAPI and has been a devoted volunteer for AIDS Walk San Diego for the past six years.

"We are extremely proud of Mike and the work he does on behalf of the LGBT equar rights movement. Through his support of San Diego Pride, he remains deeply committed to human rights in our community," said Ron deHarte, executive director of San Diego Pride.

The Consolidated Association of Pride is a non-profit, membership-based corporation comprised of Pride coordinators from several Western States, Hawaii and Mexico. It was formed in 1987, with San Diego LGBT Pride being among its founding members. Today, CAPI encompasses member committees that represent a range of celebrations, from San Francisco Pride and Christopher Street West to small and mid-size events held throughout its regional scope.

San Diego Pride weekend will be held July 21-22. This year's theme is "United for Equality." For more information, call 619-297-7683 or visit the web site: www.SanDiegoPride.org.
