SAN DIEGO, May 8, 2007 - Sempra Energy recently became the fifth Fortune 500 company to sponsor this year's San Diego LGBT Pride celebration, scheduled for July 21-22. The San Diego-based company is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company with 2006 revenues of nearly $12 billion.  The Sempra Energy companies' 14,000 employees serve more than 29 million consumers worldwide.  It joins four other Fortune 500 companies as top sponsors of Pride's 2007 celebration: AT&T, Cox Communications, Wells Fargo and Hewlett Packard, all of which offer diversity programs and domestic partnership benefits that extend into the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Sempra Energy has offered health insurance coverage to employees' domestic partners since 1996 and includes sexual orientation in its employment non-discrimination policy. In addition, it scores 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Equality Index.

"We are grateful to Sempra Energy for choosing to partner with us, and endorsing our values and demonstrating to their stakeholders that all people matter," said San Diego LGBT Pride Executive Director Ron deHarte. "In many cases, employee groups within our sponsors have played significant roles in encouraging their companies to become involved in our community."

The diversity statement established by Sempra Energy states: "We strive to develop, manage and ensure a workplace environment where everyone is treated with respect, and where human, cultural and systems diversity is recognized, valued and leveraged in the communities and the global marketplace."

This year's San Diego Pride celebration is titled, "United for Equality." It features a mile-long parade at 11 a.m., on July 21, and a two-day festival in Balboa Park on July 21-22, along with a "Spirit of Stonewall" celebration on July 15 in the park. Several other pre-Pride events have been planned as well and are posted on the web site: www.SanDiegoPride.org.
